Hymenoplasty is a procedure to restore and repair a torn hymen back to its virginal state. It is popularly known as revirgination procedure. Hymen of a woman usually ruptures during the first sexual intercourse but often can also rupture during heavy physical activity or many types of sports. HYMENOPLASTY PROCEDURE
Hymen is a very thin membrane which covers the opening of the vagina. There is a small opening which allows the menstrual blood to come out. When it ruptures, tiny fibrous remnants are left attached to the walls of the vagina. These remnants are identified, and, they are repaired. If enough remnants are not available, small flaps of vaginal lining are used to reconstruct the hymen. This latter procedure is called hymenoplasty.
After it is fully healed, the opening becomes small and repeat sexual intercourse will re-rupture the hymen and bleed. It is important for some women that at the first sexual intercourse after marriage the hymen bleeds, for the sake of traditional beliefs and values.
WHAT WILL BE THE POST OPERATIVE RECOVERY PHASE?
Patient is advised to take rest and not do a lot of physical activity for approximately one week. Patient can start taking normal shower two days after surgery and can continue your normal light activity a couple of days after surgery. Healing occurs by the end of 1 week.
WILL THERE BE ANY HOSPITALIZATION?
No, we do hymenoplasty procedure as a day care surgery. You can go home after the procedure is done.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF HYMENOPLASTY PROCEDURE?
Duration is 30 minutes -1hour.
WILL THERE BE BLEEDING AFTER RE-RUPTURE OF HYMEN?
Most likely it bleeds once re-rupture occurs, however, just as in case of primary rupture, there is no guarantee that it will bleed significantly enough to be noticed. You can have a few spots of blood which goes unnoticed.
WILL THERE BE ANY PAIN AFTER HYMENOPLASTY?
Hymenoplasty is not a painful procedure. It is perfectly bearable with oral analgesics.
WHEN CAN I START HAVING SEX AFTER HYMENOPLASTY?
You would be advised to complete abstain from sex for approximately three to four weeks after the surgery.
WHAT ARE COMPLICATIONS AND RISKS WITH HYMENOPLASTY?
It is a simple procedure and does not have any major risk and complications. Excessive tightness of the hole or failure of the hymen to rupture are also some of the rare complications.

The recovery period is about one to two weeks after the surgery. Bruising and mild swelling may occur but usually fade within one to two days. Kegels Exercises will be advised before and after the vaginoplasty surgery to tighten the pelvic muscles.
