A brachioplasty, or “arm lift” is a surgical procedure that removes the excess hanging tissues of the upper arm, effectively reshaping the arm from the elbow to the underarm region. In addition, excess fat from the upper arm area can be liposculpted to reduce and further shape the arms. Many individuals who seek an arm lift are relatively fit and are not able to improve the look of their arms with diet and exercise.
There are various types of arm:
Type 1: Patients with type 1 arms have excellent upper arm skin tone and elasticity. These are people who are typically younger than 35 years old and have only minimal fat throughout the arm. The arm fat is usually distributed in the triceps region and sometimes on the back of the arm. People with Type 1 arms are best treated with arm liposuction.
Type 2: Patients with type 2 arms have excess upper arm skin and fat close to the armpit. This excess extends 4-6 inches from the armpit towards the elbow.
Type 3: Patients with type 3 arms have excess upper arm skin and fat that extend the entire length of the upper arm from the armpit to the elbow.
Type 4: Patients with type 4 arms have excess upper arm skin and fat that extends from the armpit to the wrist.
The ideal candidate may be a man or woman who has lost elasticity of the skin of the upper arm. It occurs due to significant weight loss and skin that has lost its ability to retract after being overstretched. This can result in significant stretch marks in the area.
Loose sagging skin of the upper arms can also result naturally from heredity and aging. In general, candidates are healthy individuals who do not have any medical conditions that can impair healing or increase risk of surgery. They are non-smokers and have a relatively stable weight without being significantly overweight. They should also have a positive outlook and realistic goals for what brachioplasty can accomplish.

Minimal Incision Technique: At Alvura we, specialize in the Minimal Incision Technique (MIT) of arm lift surgery or arm liposuction, which delivers the same results as traditional arm lift with minimum of incisions. This method is ideal for individuals with moderate skin laxity and it is often combined with Liposculpting to ensure the best possible results.
For young patients, whose skin still retains its elasticity and who have little to no wrinkle formation in the upper arms, a liposculpture procedure will be sufficient. The excess fat is removed and the skin’s own elasticity will then adapt to the new volume of the arms. It is usually performed under local anaesthesia.
When there is a significant degree of skin sagging as well and the skin has lost some of its elasticity, the desired results can only be realised by removing the excess skin. In almost all cases, this is combined with a liposculpture. The excess skin is removed by making an incision from the armpit down the inside of the upper arm. This procedure can also be performed in the day clinic under local or general anaesthesia. The incision is largely stitched subcutaneously, which means the skin will not feel tight. In most cases, the only scar will be a pale and pencil-thin line that is only visible from up close.
Immediately after:
